Guide: Reverse with a trailer

19 lokakuu, 2023

We took the pulse of the Swedes and asked them which situations in traffic they think are the most troublesome . As you may already be able to guess, reversing with a trailer is something that gets the heart rate up for many. Here we have collected our best tips on how to reverse correctly and easily with a trailer.

1. Check the trailer

Make sure the trailer is properly attached to the towing vehicle and that all lights and brakes are working properly before backing up.

2. Stand up straight

Start by driving forward properly so the crew is standing straight. Then half the job is done.

3. Plan

Before you start reversing, look at the area where you will be reversing and plan how you will drive. Always keep in mind how long your trailer is and how much turning radius it may need.

4. Hold the lower edge of the steering wheel

Grasp the lower edge of the steering wheel, then the trailer turns in the same direction as you turn the steering wheel. If you want the trailer to go left, move your hand to the left. If you want it to turn right, move your hand to the right.

5. Take it slow

Back up slowly, using your car's rearview mirrors to monitor the trailer's movements. Keep an eye on the steering wheel angle and be careful not to overcompensate. Small steering wheel movements.

6. Stop and correct if necessary

If you feel that the trailer is not at the right angle or if you are unsure of your position, do not hesitate to stop and correct it.

7. Practice, practice, practice

Backing up with a trailer takes practice. The more you practice, the better you get at it.
